If a student is not happy with the outcome of a results enquiry or malpractice case and thinks the process was not followed correctly, it is possible to submit an appeal.
The appeals process involves a review of the evidence relating to the case by a person with no involvement in the previous decisions and at least one person not directly employed by Cambridge University Press and Assessment.
Appeals can be submitted by centres or candidates, with the person who appeals being referred to as the ‘appellant’.
Appeals must be submitted within 5 working days of an outcome being received. To appeal a results enquiry outcome, please submit the relevant form on the Results Online website:
To appeal a malpractice outcome, a link to the appeal form will be provided in the outcome letter.
If the candidate has applied to the University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick or Imperial College London and they would like us to notify their university that we are investigating an appeal, please include a request from the candidate with the appeal application. Without this, we cannot tell the university.
We will aim to complete an appeal as soon as possible after receiving the request. Appellants will be notified in writing within 42 days of submitting the appeal.
Exactly how long any specific appeal takes depends on the individual case. We will always try to reach a decision in time for it to be taken into account during the current university admissions round, if possible.
If the candidate has applied to the University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick or Imperial College London, we will notify them directly of any change to the results. Other institutions will be notified via UCAS.
If the appeal against a results enquiry outcome is successful, you will not be charged. If the appeal is not successful, you will receive an invoice for the fee(s) once all appeals have been processed (see the fees list).
There is no fee for appealing a malpractice outcome.
