      A Level Science 26 September 2017

A wealth of data on your students’ exam performance, free via Interchange

Many science teachers, and particularly Heads of Department, find our Active Results tool extremely useful for their exam series review. It allows access to a wealth of data relating to your candidates’ performance in the exams and allows comparisons with performance across the national cohort.

If you have never used Active Results, extensive online documentation will help you get to grips with the powerful analysis available to you.

If you already use the tool, you may be aware it is not possible to produce specification level reports for the new A Level science qualifications. This is linked to the fact that the A Level is a four-component qualification, comprising the three written exams and the practical endorsement. The existence of this fourth component, carrying no marks, prevents the Active Results tool from extracting and processing specification level data.

To solve this, we have produced a simple spreadsheet, pre-populated with the national grade distributions and set up so that if you enter your own grade distribution it will produce bar charts in the familiar specification level report format. We understand how useful the specification level report is and hope this simple spreadsheet is useful.

The rich data at component level and candidate level for your students is still accessible using Active Results so we hope that, by combining this with the broad specification level information presented in the spreadsheet, you will be able to see the big picture and get the finer detail in the usual way.
