Raise learner confidence with Entry Level English 15 November 2016

We are excited to have developed a new Entry Level English Certificate (R393), from first teach in September 2016 and first assessment May 2017, to be co-teachable with the GCSE (9-1) English Language specification.

The new Entry Level English has been developed to encourage learners to read fluently, developing the skills to understand a range of non-fiction and literary texts. It also enables learners to develop their informative and imaginative writing styles and the ability to produce texts for different purposes, as well as giving them confidence in using spoken language to communicate clearly and effectively.

This Entry Level has been designed to build learners' confidence in English and to allow for a natural progression to GCSE. It is designed to be flexible, accessible and relevant, and provides learners with recognition for their achievements. Entry Level English can be used as a one or two year course, and learners who are targeting the lower grades at GCSE Level may benefit from taking Entry Level English simultaneously. Entry Level English enables learners to progress at their own pace. They can be entered for assessment whenever they are ready. For teachers, there is considerable freedom in how to organise the course. Reading, writing and spoken language skills can be developed discretely or holistically.

We will also be running training events to support delivery of the Entry Level specification. Keep an eye on the CPD hub for more information.

You will be able to continue to teach our existing Entry Level Certificate (R392) in September 2017 and we will update you if there are any changes.
