OCR Bursary Scheme 2017 now open

Applications are now open for OCR's Bursary Scheme which supports talented West Midlands students at Cambridge University. The application deadline for students offered an undergraduate place at Cambridge University this Autumn, is Tuesday 16 May 2017. 

Now in its 14th year, OCR's Bursary Scheme is open to students who are completing their sixth form studies at schools and colleges in the West Midlands. The Scheme gives up to ten students bursaries of £3,000 per annum for the lifetime of their undergraduate studies. The money can be used for living costs or tuition fees, or for a combination of both. 

The fund for the Scheme arises from OCR's historical association with the West Midlands Examinations Board. OCR is part of the University of Cambridge's international examinations group which incorporated the West Midlands Board at one time. As well as offices in Cambridge, OCR has had a base in Coventry for over 25 years. 

In 2016, students from schools and colleges in Birmingham, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Shrewsbury, Stourbridge, Tamworth, Worcester and Warwick made successful applications and were awarded bursaries at a ceremony at OCR's Coventry offices in September. 

Simon Lebus, Chair of OCR and Chief Executive of OCR's parent organisation, Cambridge Assessment, (pictured here with 2016 Bursary award winner Denicia Bernard from Campion School, Leamington Spa), has presented the awards for many years. He said: "We are proud to be able to support students from the West Midlands, enabling them to make the most of the opportunity that Cambridge offers with less financial pressure. Each year, it is a privilege to meet the Bursary winners. They are impressive young people, who are not only academically able but who also contribute and achieve in ways well beyond their studies, in some cases despite difficult circumstances."
