More good news for Further Maths teachers
25 April 2017
UPDATED NEWS: OCR's AS and A Level Further Maths B (MEI) are now accredited. This follows the news of the accreditation of our AS and A Level Further Maths A first announced on 12/04/17 (below).
OCR is delighted to confirm that AS and A Level Further Mathematics A is now accredited for first teaching in September 2017. This good news for maths teachers follows the successful accreditation of OCR's two AS and A Level Maths suites at the beginning of 2017. OCR looks forward to supporting teachers to deliver our new qualifications this September.
AS and A Level Further Mathematics A offer coherent courses of study to develop students' mathematical understanding. They encourage students to think, act and communicate mathematically, providing them with the skills to analyse situations in mathematics and elsewhere.
AS and A Level Further Mathematics A extend OCR's accredited AS and A Level Mathematics A course content, covering complex numbers, matrices, further calculus and differential equations. The new qualifications allow students to develop mathematical independence on a sound base of conceptual learning and understanding. For teachers, they're designed to help you teach interesting mathematics, encouraging students to master the subject and achieve positive exam results. The qualifications have optional content allowing for a balance between breadth and depth, and giving students a springboard for progress and achievement in higher education and future employment.
Our parent organisation, Cambridge Assessment, conducted research with over 4000 university students taking a range of degrees, as part of the qualification development process. As a result of university students' feedback on maths needs, OCR has included a choice of topics in our Further Mathematics specifications, such as partial differentiation and non-parametric statistical tests, which support preparation for university courses.
As the only exam board offering teachers and students two suites of Maths and Further Maths at A Level, OCR will also provide an extensive teacher support package, including high-quality, flexible resources.
