Reformed GCSEs, AS and A Levels
05 January 2017
GCSEs, AS and A Levels reformed for first assessment in June 2017
As the entries deadline for the June 2017 series approaches (21 February), this will be the first assessment opportunity for the first tranche of new reformed A Levels and GCSEs launched in September 2015, and for the second tranche of new reformed AS Levels launched in September 2016. These are as follows:
Northern Ireland
Most of OCR’s new GCSE (9–1), AS and A levels are available in Northern Ireland. The exceptions for those qualifications available for first assessment in June 2017, are A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and GCSE (9–1) English Language.
Wales
In most subjects redeveloped for first teaching from September 2015 or 2016, maintained sector schools in Wales will need to take the reformed WJEC ‘Wales – only’ qualifications. However, OCR’s new AS Levels in Latin and Classical Greek, available for first assessment in June 2017, are available to all centres in Wales. (OCR’s new AS Levels are stand-alone qualifications that do not contribute to the final grade of the A Level.)
Further information and support
Further information on changes in each subject area can be found in the 'Changes to GCSEs, AS and A Levels’ tables on the OCR website. These tables include details of final assessment and resit opportunities for legacy qualifications.
We have also created the Qual Change Planner, an online tool designed to support schools and colleges in changing from the qualification currently being delivered to one of our new reformed qualifications or alternative provision.
