Updated forms and moderation processes for PE qualifications
06 January 2022
This information has been superseded by our subject update published on 21 February 2024.
This subject update was originally published on 9 December 2021. We have now added a link to our revised Entry Level Guide to Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) in the ‘Submitting special activity requests’ section below.
In August 2021, we updated you on the new Ofqual regulations, which require all awarding organisations to follow the same standards for Centre Assessment Standards Scrutiny (CASS). In December 2020, we also informed you that the Practical Performance and Analysis/Evaluation tasks for GCSE, AS and A Level Physical Education are now split into different components. This means they can be assessed and submitted separately and you have greater visibility of how any adjustments affect the marks for each component.
As a result, we’ve updated our forms and moderation process for submitting PE marks and assessment evidence. We’ve also published a graphical timeline to help you when assessing, filming and submitting your students’ evidence. The changes we’ve made are outlined below:
Visit arrangement form
We’ve revised the visit arrangement forms to include the additional activities that are available for first assessment in 2022. We’ve also simplified the contact information requirements on these forms.
You can view the revised visit arrangement forms below:
PE mark input form
We've made the following updates to the PE mark input form:
- the additional activities that are accessible for assessment for 2022 for all of the qualifications have been added to the forms and we've added new columns to identify the performances you have filmed evidence for
- you must now enter NEA marks on Interchange or EDI
- now that the NEA components have been split, we have removed the need to enter marks for the Evaluation and Analysis of Performance (AS/A Level) or the Analysis and Evaluation of Performance (GCSE).
For 2022, there are changes to our Entry Level, GCSE and AS and A Level PE qualifications. As a result, we have revised the Entry Level PE mark input form for 2022 due to students only needing to be assessed in two activities, not four. We’ve also amended the GCSE PE mark input form as candidates only need to be assessed in two activities for 2022.
You can view the amended PE mark input forms below:
Submitting special activity requests
We’ve amended the specialist activity submission form, which is used to request adjustments to the marking criteria for candidates with disabilities. We’ve also renamed the form to the ‘activity adjustment request’ form. For guidance on how to complete the activity adjustment request form, please refer to the relevant sections of the Guide to Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) documents listed below:
All new requests must be made using the new form. If you already have requests approved for students still to be assessed, you are not required to submit a copy of the new form.
Filming
We have updated the moderation day filmed evidence cover sheet.
All centres must now complete section 1 of this cover sheet, one per centre, to identify which students took part in the moderation day and in what activity. If appropriate, these cover sheets should be given to the centre submitting the filmed evidence who must send it in with your video evidence. Any centre submitting filmed evidence must also complete section 2 of their cover sheet.
We have also amended the Guidance on Filming resources for each PE qualification to provide further advice on how to best capture and submit appropriate filmed evidence.
- AS/A Level – Guidance on Filming
- GCSE – Guidance on Filming
Submitting AEPs (written documents) and EAPIs (filmed evidence) to the moderator
We’ll email you to let you know which candidates’ evidence needs to be sent to the moderator for the GCSE AEPs, after you have submitted your PE mark input form by 31 March.
All available candidate evidence for AS and A Level EAPIs must be sent to your moderator by 31 March.
You can send evidence by post or on the OCR Repository.
For further information, see our subject updates from September 2021 on the AEP and EAPI tasks.
Timelines
To help you when assessing, filming and submitting your students’ evidence, we’ve published timelines to remind you of the key dates.
You can view the non-exam assessment timelines for each PE qualification below:

Remember there are other permanent changes to the EAPI that apply now and are for first assessment in 2022. For more details, please read our September 2021 subject update.
