GCSE, AS and A Level Physical Education update
11 December 2024
This update was first published on 26 September 2024. We can now confirm the systems we'll be using for practical performance submissions. See below for details.
In this update, we provide an overview of the practical performance assessment arrangements for the coming year, including confirmation of the submission arrangements, details of updated support materials and key dates for the year.
For the June 2025 series, we also confirm we will be asking you to upload all off-site and on-site filmed evidence and accompanying documentation rather than post it to us. We hope you find this makes the moderation process much smoother.
Overview of the practical performance submission arrangements
All PE moderation activities will be accessed via the OCR PE Moderation Service. Known currently as OCR PE Submissions, and accessed via our single-sign on service, My Cambridge, the service is currently used to submit visit and moderation arrangements. The service is now being expanded to allow you to submit your activity marks and provide links to Submit for Assessment, the filmed evidence submission service we will be using.
Visit and moderation arrangements
As for last year, you will submit the arrangements online. Following your feedback, we will be making some small improvements to the online form, which will be available at the start of January.
After you have submitted your visit and moderation arrangements request, your moderator will contact you to arrange your moderation visit. We aim to have all visits arranged by 15 March.
Submitting marks
Once you have made your entries, from 1 February, you will be able to submit your marks. To improve your experience, we are making some improvements to the way you submit your marks.
Activity marks will be submitted via our secure website, the OCR PE Moderation Service.
When you submit your activity marks, the service will automatically calculate the overall component marks. You can then use these to submit your component marks as usual via Interchange or EDI.
We will let you know when our system is open to submit your marks.
Submitting filmed evidence to OCR
Once you have made your entries, you will also be able to submit your off-site (AS, A Level and GCSE) and on-site (AS and A Level) filmed evidence.
New for this year, we will be asking you to upload all off-site and on-site filmed evidence and accompanying documentation rather than post it to us. Filmed evidence will be submitted digitally to OCR using Submit for Assessment.
Submit for Assessment can already be used to submit AS and A Level Evaluating and Analysing Performance for Improvement (EAPI) tasks and has now been developed to handle larger file sizes efficiently so you will be able to submit off-site and on-site filmed evidence easily.
Submitting moderation day filmed evidence
You need to submit the moderation day filmed evidence within 10 working days of the moderation visit. We can confirm the moderation filmed evidence will also be submitted using Submit for Assessment. It will no longer be possible to send your evidence by post.
You can read more about filmed evidence on our website.
Updated filming guidance
When planning your filmed evidence, consider the quantity and size of evidence you need to collect. Uploading lots of large files should not be necessary.
- The evidence you submit must support the marks you submit.
- You must only upload evidence you and your team used when marking.
Following your feedback, we have updated our filming guidance to provide more detail. This includes what to keep in mind when filming specific sporting activities to help you obtain high quality footage.
You can view the updated filming guidance in Appendix B of each of the documents below:
You can also download these from the Physical Education qualification pages on our website and Teach Cambridge.
