GCSE (9-1) Ancient History
18 July 2019
We have made some updates to the specification and sample assessment materials.
The specification
We have made some updates to the ‘Hannibal and the Second Punic War, 218–201 BC’ depth study:
- We have changed the statement “Scipio’s invasion of Africa to draw Hannibal out of Rome” in the “The changing nature of Rome’s response to Hannibal” key topic area to “Scipio’s invasion of Africa to draw Hannibal out of Italy”.
- We have changed the statement “Reasons for Hannibal’s withdrawal from Rome” in the “How did Rome defeat Carthage?” key topic area to “Reasons for Hannibal’s withdrawal from Italy”.
- We have also corrected the spelling of Paullus.
Sample assessment materials
We have made some changes to the J198/01 and J198/02 sample assessment materials. We have detailed these changes on page 41 of both sample assessment material mark schemes:
- We have amended a date of a depth study title on page 5 of the J198/02 sample question paper to ‘Cleopatra: Rome and Egypt, 69-31 BC’.
- We have made some minor corrections to the marking grids of J198/01 and J198/02 for questions 4, 5, 8, 13, 18 and 10, 15, 20. These changes do not affect the approach to marking.
