Proposals for GQs and VTQs in 2022 published
12 July 2021
The DfE and Ofqual have issued two joint consultations on proposed changes to the assessment of GQs and VTQs in 2022.
For GCSEs, AS and A Levels, the consultation proposes a package of measures to help mitigate the impact of disruption to students’ education seeking views on:
- The provision of advance information for the majority of subjects at GCSE, AS and A Level
- Choice of topics in GCSE English Literature, History, Ancient History and choice of content in GCSE Geography
- Changes to practical activities in science subjects, and assessment in art and design
- The provision of support materials such as formulae or equations sheets in GCSE Mathematics, Physics and Combined Science exams.
Following earlier consultation, a delay to the exam period in 2022 is not proposed. Results days will be confirmed in the autumn term.
This consultation closes on 1 August with decisions announced early in the next academic year. These proposed arrangements are in addition to the decisions already made for
non-exam assessment and fieldwork requirements.
For
vocational, technical and other general qualifications, adaptations to assessments and qualifications may continue in order to take account of the disruption to teaching and learning. The DfE and Ofqual
consultation is seeking views on changes to the regulatory framework to reflect the on-going use of adaptations in the academic year 2021-2022, as well as consideration of the equality impacts of this decision.
The consultation closes on 26 July. Decisions will be announced as soon as possible.
Whilst the Government intends for exams to go ahead in 2022, the DfE and Ofqual continue to work on contingency plans. Ofqual has issued a separate
TAGs survey for teachers plus a
student TAGs survey to inform contingency planning and “to understand how arrangements this year could be improved upon should Teacher Assessed Grades form part of the approach in 2022”.
