Ofqual publishes action plan for 2023 VTQ results
16 December 2022
A new action plan has been published by Ofqual to support the delivery of results for Vocational and Technical Qualifications (VTQs) in 2023. The eight action points set out the arrangements that Ofqual intends to put in place to help avoid issues experienced with some delays to VTQ results in 2022:
- Results deadline: Ofqual will introduce a new results deadline by which awarding organisations (AOs) must issue VTQ results to schools and colleges for qualifications that are used for progression to further or higher education.
- Term-time check points: Ofqual plan to require AOs to introduce a series of checkpoints with centres throughout the year to have better visibility of which students are taking assessments.
- Data sharing: AOs must work more closely with UCAS to track VTQ results needed for progression to higher education.
- VTQ information hub: Ofqual will launch and host a new VTQ information hub that brings together key information from different AOs in to one central location.
- Support for Exams Officers: Ofqual will expect AOs to provide improved training and support for Exams Officers to improve the administration of VTQ assessments.
- Communications: Ofqual expects AOs to improve the quality of its communications with schools and colleges.
- Designated contact: schools and colleges will be asked to provide the name of a senior leader who has the authority to access information outside of term time if necessary.
- 2023 results taskforce: Ofqual will convene a regular meeting of key stakeholders to actively monitor the delivery of results for 2023.
A consultation on the timing of the results deadline and other details will follow early in 2023.
Ofqual’s analysis of the root causes of the results delays in 2022, as well as any recommendations for wider system changes will be published in 2023.

key findings and recommendations from its own review into the delay of some Cambridge Technicals results this summer. The findings set out what happened, how we responded, and our recommendations to ensure nothing similar happens in the future.
