Adaptations for 2021-22 VTQs confirmed
09 August 2021
Arrangements for exams and other assessments for Vocational and Technical Qualifications (VTQs) in 2021 to 2022 have been confirmed following a joint Department for Education (DfE) and Ofqual consultation.
The DfE has confirmed the policy position that exams and other assessments should go ahead in 2021 to 2022. Ofqual will amend the VTQ contingency regulatory framework therefore, so that all VTQs awarded from 1 September 2021 will be based on evidence from exams and other assessments, not Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs). Awarding Organisations will however be permitted to make some adaptations to VTQ assessments and qualifications to help mitigate disruption to learning and the ongoing impact of the pandemic. Learners who already have unit TAGs will be able to use these towards their qualifications in 2022.
The DfE and Ofqual continue to work together to consider any contingency arrangements, beyond the permitted adaptations, which may be necessary should the public health situation worsen causing disruption to learning and assessments.
